The GeNEUROsity Response to Systemic Inequity

Posted: October 5, 2020

We begin to recognize that the issues we face around hate, prejudice, and discrimination have a direct impact on us all, individually and collectively. We can no longer stand aloof from the reality that within the heart of humanity come the basest thoughts, words, and actions. Derived from the same core is the ability to love, be open-minded, and to be impartial.

— Pastor Ali Harget

Our philosophy revolves around a core premise: dedicated resources given to driven individuals and charitable groups produce real change in communities.

The events of summer 2020 showed us that the world still needs plenty of change. From the killing of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor to the shooting of Jacob Blake, and the social unrest resulting from so many other events in the form of protests and pushback against those protests, it angers my family that there are still people who exhibit such disdain for human life.

Yet, there is hope for us to help build a better world. While GeNEUROsity is only one part of this growing change, we can make sure our efforts go to raise up communities in need.

By elevating communities to have equitable access to education and opportunities that empower individuals, we help drive the critical change toward battling systemic inequity.

In particular, our recent contributions to the NAACP ACTSO and the Equal Justice Initiative serve as just two examples of how GeNEUROsity wants to push the needle on this disparity.

NAACP ACTSO:

A division of the NAACP, the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACTSO) set out to overcome the negative cycle of low expectations of achievement in our underserved minority youth and to inspire scholastic enrichment and preparation for higher education and employment. We are particularly excited about our support for the Greater Harrisburg, PA, chapter of NAACP ACTSO as we explore opportunities with them to further collaborate on providing on-going coaching and scholastic time, funding, and resources.

EQUAL JUSTICE INITIATIVE:

The story of this organization is rooted in the progress of civil rights in our country. We are proud to support the important campaigns of this organization, founded by Bryan Stevenson and committed to—among an assortment of powerful initiatives—ending racial/economic injustice and protecting human rights for those in need. Our contribution to their scholastic programs designed to elevate people out of their situation will help to promote justice, life, and personal pursuit of those people most at risk of this inequity.

Ours are small contributions dedicated to real change. With ACTSO, we lay the foundation for minority youths to have a greater effect on their communities at large with the prospect of higher education and employment. Equitable access to these resources ensures that individuals in disenfranchised communities have the tools to push back against this inequity. With the Equal Justice Initiative, we do our part to resist the broader problem of racial and economic injustice. Our contributions will continue so long as these organizations fulfill the basic needs these communities have to fulfill.

We cannot lose hope.

Bryan Stevenson said wise words as we partnered up in the wake of 2020’s tragedies: “Hopelessness is the enemy of justice.”

Our goal is to buoy up hope in the face of this injustice, so that communities and individuals alike can continue to drive this meaningful change.

We invite you to join us and do the same. If you or your organization is striving for the same, better world, you may have a partner in GeNEUROsity. Reach out to us and see if we can rekindle your hope.

When in doubt if there is something we can do, we recommend you reflect on the kind and necessary words of Pastor Ali Harget:

“Let us align ourselves with a tenet of our organizational purpose and ‘make our mark by changing and saving lives,’ recognizing that ‘this is what inspires us to be the best we can be every day.’ Change is inevitable, and we will be actively part of that change. May we all receive the spiritual guidance to do so.”

GeNEUROsity is hopeful. We take pride in knowing that we stand by the tenets of justice, equity, and diversity tolerance.
