Our Mission

Every single grain of sand makes the seashore. Every color, the rainbow. Every leaf, the forest.

Likewise, each of us can magnify our unique contribution by collaborating with others to help those in need.

GeNEUROsity, the Seshan Family Foundation founded in Dr. T.V. Seshan’s memory, seeks to inspire and empower the personal passions and talents of motivated individuals in order to transform the world.

GeNEUROsity unlocks the potential and gifts people who aspire to lead and transform the world by providing access to basic sustenance, health, education, and entrepreneurialism. Confident, even small, progressive efforts make for meaningful change.

Drawing on the values of Dr. T.V. Seshan and his family,
GeNEUROsity believes that when we each do our part, we restore each other, creating abundance for all.

Legacy

In every way, Dr. T.V. Seshan was a healer.

As a physician, he brought comfort and care to his patients. To his professional peers, he was a leading resource and mentor. And to his many charities, volunteer groups, and religious organizations, he brought an optimistic energy and a purposefulness around the fact that a better world is within our reach.

Dr. Seshan’s style was simply “to do.” He believed that service itself was the reward. He was always ready to lend a hand or offer a piece of wisdom for someone else’s benefit. He even built his own practice based on the premise that the team speaks for patients when they can not speak for themselves—ensuring their safety during surgery.

In establishing GeNEUROsity, the Seshan family continues the legacy of their father and husband. Through the foundation, Dr. Seshan’s hopeful and healing heart continues to aid and transform the lives of the people it touches.

Why We’re Here

Letter from the Founder
To Friends, Family, Mothers, Fathers, Brothers, and Sisters in our communities:

Depending on the lens you use to see the world, it can be a pretty bleak place. And, for many of our fellow world citizens, the road to sheer survival is cast with doubt, despair, and constant/systemic bias and abuse.

Everyone should have a choice to select a path of meaning and purpose. At times, that choice seems impossible or out of reach. It takes providing our communities with a fair chance—whether it be through basic physical and psychological safety, well-being, and resources, or through inspiration to be a better versions of ourselves.

Though it is not easy and it is not quick, we have the power to change this reality.

The name GeNEUROsity combines two concepts.

  1. Physiatry/neuromuscular medicine – the related medical discipline that my father practiced;
  2. Generosity – a word that is often used as an indicator of action, but also important as a state of being or a way of life.

This GeNEUROsity doesn’t exist to simply give in the spirit of giving, but rather to enable those who have or can have the power to transform the world with just a little help.

So, I challenge you to ask these three questions, in this order:

  1. What do I want our future to look like?
  2. With what lens and mindset do I want to experience our reality today to positively impact the future?
  3. Who do I want to be and what role do I want to play in changing the world?

My hopes and dreams for this organization, founded in my father’s memory, are to change the lens through which we see the world; it is to open eyes to what is possible and reward those who decide they’re ready to embrace their own futures, create opportunities, and forge their own paths. Everyone needs a little help. Let’s start by focusing on caring and (com)passion. Every life changed for the better is progress for humanity and our collective prosperity.

Through GeNERUOsity, our family seeks to make
progress—through even small contributions–by giving hope to, challenging, and inspiring people to change the world.

With Love and Hope,
Karthik S-V. Seshan

Stories

I was 40 miles away from his office. Dr. T.V. Seshan was reading one of my cases and it went on and on for hours. I was there from 6:30am to about 10pm. At around 5pm he said, “Chris I will be there in an hour!” I asked, “What for?” He said, “I’m going to give you a half-hour break so you can eat something.” I insisted on him not to come but there was no way to change his mind. He showed up with his credit card in hand and said go get something to eat.

He was such a great man and he would drop whatever he was doing to make sure you were okay.

It has been a pleasure to work with Karthik Seshan and the GeNEUROsity foundation. They are a thoughtful, responsive, and practical donor. They listen to the needs of our organization. They seeded our first ever Summer Medtech Award for our student entrepreneurship program at Johns Hopkins University. While the support has been instrumental in accelerating the progress of one of our student teams, their engagement in the process and mentorship of the students has made the support even more impactful.
