The Equity of Empowerment With GeNEUROsity

Posted: September 11, 2020

GeNEUROsity believes that every person on the planet has the capacity to achieve great things. Though, we also know there are people around the world who lack easy access to basic necessities.

We wonder what the world could accomplish if everyone had what they needed to survive and thrive.

The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion estimates that around 43 million Americans lived in poverty around 2015 and that there is an established relationship between poverty, socioeconomic status, and health outcomes.

Despite their education, social class, income level, or geographic location, each of these individuals has the potential to achieve something greater than survival. But, their circumstances place hurdles and obstacles between them and success. By amplifying generosity and establishing equity for the underprivileged, we not only lift them up by helping to cover basic, day-to-day needs, but we also enormously impact society by empowering these individuals to achieve and contribute at a greater level.

The magic of this process is that it’s a cycle: generosity begets further generosity. Being of service empowers others who then, in turn, will endeavor to be of service—spreading and exponentially increasing the good.

GeNEUROsity believes in that self-perpetuating cycle of empowerment:

  1. Fulfill someone’s needs
  2. Empower them to create and/or seize opportunities
  3. See them succeed
  4. Expect them help others

Lather, rinse, repeat.

We may not control how a person receives generosity or how they give back in step 4, but we can control the nature of our generosity and to whom we provide it.

GeNEUROsity wants to perpetually help driven individuals and organizations step up to their potential without being limited by unmet basic needs or being unable to recognize or seize opportunities when they come.

Sometimes, in the face of systemic hardship like racial or income inequality, it can feel like the game is rigged against someone from the beginning. But, everyone has unique skills, talents, and passions that we can help identify. We can level the playing field.

GeNEUROsity not only helps in areas like food, water, shelter, and community, but we also empower the individual to understand, develop, and act upon their unique talents and passions in the face of adversity through our focus on education and entrepreneurialism. Instead of accepting our world, as is, we want to empower people to build the stability and capability necessary to make a positive impact.

This is as true for organizations as it is for people. By providing a support network for those charities that do amazing work for amazing communities, we are helping them do more by mitigating the worry over where their funding or volunteers will come from. They can focus on what they do best in serving communities according to their mission.

Even more good can get done by helping the helpers. GeNEUROsity has recognized this truth since our inception, and we look forward to seeing more of it in the future. Charity and generosity do not remove the hurdles, but they provide for the chance that anyone can have the means to overcome them.

If you or your organization could do great things if you just had a hand to help give you a boost, you may be a great fit as a GeNEUROsity collaborator. We encourage you to explore our website and reach out to us to discuss how we can work together toward your ambitions.
